Instructions

Preheat the Oven:

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Cook the Ground Beef:

  • In a large oven-safe skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat until fully cooked (5–7 minutes). Drain any excess grease.

Sauté Vegetables:

  • Add the chopped onion, diced bell pepper, and minced garlic to the skillet. Cook for 3–4 minutes until the veggies are soft and fragrant.

Make the Sloppy Joe Sauce:

  • Stir in ketchup, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, salt, and pepper. Mix well and simmer for 5–7 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken and flavors to blend.

Add Cheese (Optional):

  • Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the meat mixture for a cheesy surprise layer.

Top with Biscuits:

  • Slightly flatten each refrigerated biscuit and arrange on top of the meat mixture in a single layer. Brush the tops with melted butter.

Bake:

  • Transfer the skillet to the oven and bake for 18–20 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown and fully cooked.

Serve & Garnish:

  • Let cool slightly before serving. Garnish with fresh herbs, if desired.

Notes

Recipe Notes:
For homemade biscuits, replace canned dough with your favorite recipe.
To make it spicy, add hot sauce or diced jalapeños to the meat mixture.
You can prep the meat sauce 1–2 days ahead and refrigerate until ready to bake.
Use an oven-safe skillet to keep it a true one-pan meal, or transfer filling to a 9x13 dish before baking.
Variations:
Tex-Mex Twist: Add taco seasoning and black beans; top with pepper jack cheese.
Vegetarian: Swap ground beef for lentils or plant-based crumbles.
Low-Carb: Skip the biscuits and spoon over roasted veggies.
Tater Tot Topping: Replace biscuits with frozen tater tots and bake until crispy.
Storage & Reheating:
Refrigerate: Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
Freeze: Freeze the cooled casserole (preferably without biscuits) for up to 2 months.
Reheat: Microwave individual portions, or bake at 350°F covered with foil until warmed through.
