Instructions

  • Prepare the Oven and Beans: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). If using fresh or frozen green beans, blanch them in boiling salted water for 2-3 minutes. This preserves their bright green color and tender-crisp texture. Drain well and set aside.
  • Mix the Sauce: In a large mixing bowl, combine the cream of mushroom soup, milk, soy sauce, and black pepper. Stir until fully blended and smooth. Taste the mixture and adjust seasoning if necessary.
  • Combine Ingredients: Gently fold in the green beans and 1 cup of the fried onions. Mix well to ensure the beans are evenly coated.
  • Bake the Casserole: Transfer the mixture to a 9x13-inch casserole dish, spreading it evenly. Bake uncovered in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.
  • Add Crispy Topping: Remove the casserole from the oven and sprinkle the remaining ¾ cup of fried onions over the top. Return to the oven and bake for another 5-10 minutes, or until the onions are golden and crispy.
  • Serve: Allow the casserole to cool slightly before serving. Pair with your favorite holiday dishes or enjoy it as a comforting side anytime.
